Cole Richards decides not to wait for the Economic Stimulus Package

Cape Fear Clean Water Classic, Oct. 26, '08
With the presidential elections right around the corner, this weekend Cole Richards decided not to wait for another government bailout and took matters into his own hands by bringing home the First Place trophy and a cool 1000 American Dollars in the 18+ Pro Am division of the 4th Annual Cape Fear Clean Water Classic. Congrats Cole, and many thanks to all the sponsors and the Surfrider Foundation for a great event - Mahalo

Congrats to Keenan Lineback for her 1st Place in Jr Women and to all our local surfers for a great job in this years East Coast Surfing Championship

Cam & Cole SWEEP Volcom Contest again!

from Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 October, 2008...
It's only event number two and we have already decided our over all points leader champion for the season in the Groms and the Juniors divisions. Both Cam and Cole Richards swept both events in Wrightsville Beach and KDH. They will both collected their invites to the Champs. Congrats kids!! So as I already mentioned Cam Richards has taken the top spot in the Groms division for the second event in a row.

The last time we had a grom do this was Balaram Stack winning six events in a row. Let's see you top that one Cam. If you do i'll give you an extra $100 at the end of sixth event. Come runner up in the Groms was Dylan Kowalski. Dylan had the chance to win but caught a rail on what would have been the best wave of the final. Dylan scooped up the second place points and a ton of prizes to fill up his vehicle with. Third place went to Julian Payne. Julian flat out rips, watch out for this kid. Rounding out the rest of the final was Mason Barns, Weston Williams and Morgan Taylor Level. Good Job Groms! The Juniors division was once again taken down by Cole Richards. Cole has been on fire! Taking the second spot for the second week in a row and also earning his spot at number two in the over all ratings was Evan Barton. So close Evan, you will have your chance at the Champs. Taking third was our recently crowned ESA Juniors Champ Nick Rupp. During the Pro-Am final Nick got one in to the contest area that would have won him the Cash.

Cole Richards Cashes in at the Outer Banks Rip Curl GromSearch

The last stop of the 2008 Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Boost Mobile took the noise to none other than the premiere location on the East Coast- the Outer Banks. The morning high tide offered up some fun rippable corners for the best talent around the region to showcase their steez. As the tide dropped out the shredding continued and the level of surfing grew with top seeds dominating the punchy beach break at Eckner St. Kitty Hawk NC. Just in time for the finals the tide switched, the most inform surfers were through, and the last eight invites to the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals on November 2 nd would be handed out. The Girls waited all day to surf and were more than ready to blow up in what turned into an action packed final with Darsha Pigford leading for most of the heat, but coming up shy to Chandler Von Cannon in the end. The Boys 12 and under lit up the punchy beach break, with Knox Harris standing victorious when the dust settled. With friends and family there for support, local favorite and 14 and under powerhouse, Morgan Taylor Leavel combined his power and flow to take down fellow North Carolina surfers Mason Barnes, Zack Bland, and Shane Burn. For the top dogs it was the best conditions of the day and the 16 and under boys would not let spectators down. A barn burner between Fisher Heverly of North Carolina and Cole Richards of South Carolina transpired, both going for broke on each and every wave. Fisher fell short, but not with out a fight. "I just needed to surf my own heat. These guys are the best surfers around and I was watching Fisher nearly stomping huge ally-oops," Cole announces to the crowd upon receiving his trophy. "I stuck to my game plan and it paid off. I can't wait for this Golden Ticket deal. So pumped right now!" This should make the drive back down to South Carolina a whole lot better for Cole Richards as he seals the deal for the phone, the cash, the loot, and the bragging rights all at the same time
